I wish I had gotten pictures with all of our visitors. Seeing some of our favorite people love this little guy has been beyond special.

Lurie NICU

I took some photos of the NICU to show James some day, so here's a sneak peak.

First day in Chicago

Our last day - packed and ready to go!

Home Sweet Home!

We brought James home on Sunday, September 21. That Friday I showed up at the hospital with my mom and was told they were "wrapping things up" and that I should make a pediatrician appointment for Tuesday. I had been told that he should have this appointment the day after discharge, so that meant... he was going home? Monday? I couldn't believe it.This was switched to Sunday because Adam was leaving for New York Monday morning.

So much happened in the last couple weeks in the hospital that it will require its own posts, but in a nutshell it was determined that he was safe to come home with us on oxygen and a feeding tube. This required that we learn to place the feeding tube which has been easier than anticipated but still not pleasant. He's only pulled it out twice since being home ;)

We are so very happy to have him home and to finally be settling in as a family. The first couple days were a blur, especially since Adam had to get up at the crack of dawn the first morning and was gone the second night so I was on baby duty. That overnight baby duty stuff is tough business, and I think James is a pretty mellow baby who even slept for over six hours straight the second night. I think I just enjoy my sleep, especially nine hours straight which likely will not be happening again for several years. I have been exhausted but happy and am finally catching up now that Adam has been home.

Our pets seem to be adjusting well. Maggie seemed slightly curious but mostly indifferent at first and now likes to sniff and even lick James on the top of his head. She also tries to steal his pacifiers. We've caught her barking at him a few times when he's fussing or crying, and I wonder if she's trying to alert us to come calm him. The cats are a little less enthused by their new roommate. His oxygen tank beeps when turned on and makes a constant noise which I don't think they like. Our laps are also always full now so I think they feel like they've been replaced.

First family photo at home

Those sneaky little fingers are good at getting under all that tegaderm...

Pulled off all his tubes means time for a bath!
